From the Director's Desk

Dear Friends,

The problem of avoidable blindness rapidly escalating remained a major cause of concern in the healthcare scenario of state Odisha. In a developing country the government alone cannot meet the health needs of all owing to a number of challenges like growing population, inadequate infrastructure, low per capita income, aging population, diseases in epidemic proportions and illiteracy.

Realizing this, NYSASDRI the mother NGO has wished to establish an alternate health care model that could supplement the efforts of the government and also be self supporting. And the NYSASDRI Eye Hospital was founded in 1988 in the campus of the mother NGO-NYSASDRI at one of the interior village named Santhasara located in the Gondia block of Dhenkanal district. In 2002 the Hospital had been shifted to a 2000 square feet rented building the Dhenkanal town and renamed to Kalinga Eye Hospital. After achieving the 5000 annual surgery figure, it has been decided to construct it’s own building and will provide comprehensive ophthalmic care to the people are in need and finally in 22nd September 2008, it has been shifted to its own building.

The hospitals were named after the previous name of the state Odisha (Kalinga in 261 BCE)

Intelligence and capability are not enough. There must also be the joy of doing something beautiful. Being of service to God and humanity means going well beyond the sophistication of the best technology, to the humble demonstration of courtesy and compassion to each patient.
